Activities at The Maesllwch Arms
Walking
We are just a few minutes walk from the River Wye, making The Maesllwch Arms an ideal base for walking. Why not try The Wye Valley Walk, described as a perfect mix of hill and river walking.
The Black Mountains are the most easterly peaks in the Brecon Beacons with wonderful views and heath covered ridges. They are very popular for hill walking, mountain biking and horse riding. The Beacons Way passes through the Black Mountains as does Offa's Dyke. To get superb views of the Wye Valley take the walk from Hay Bluff (just outside Hay-on-Wye) to Lord Hereford's Knob (Twmpa).
Glasbury Cutting Nature Reserve used to be part of the railway line from Brecon to Hereford. Parts of the railway were built along the line of the earlier 1818 Brecon to Eardisley horse-drawn tram road that carried coal and wool. The railway company opened the line for steam in 1864. In 1962 the line closed and in 1970 it became a nature reserve.
